Persimmon fruits are delicious and highly nutritious! The problem with this species of tree is that it can grow to a height that can ruin the look of your garden. Therefore, you need to know how to cut down a persimmon tree to make sure that it won’t become an eyesore in your backyard.
The first thing you need to do when planning to cut downa persimmon tree is to make sure that it’s not a protected plant in your area. Even though you’re the one who planted the tree, you may still be fined if you cut it down without permission from the state, especially if it’s not in your property. Therefore, you have to make sure that it’s completely legal for you to do so.
The biggest problem when trying to cut down a persimmon tree is that its trunk is very thick, and it can be quite difficult to work around its stubby branches. Therefore, the best thing to do is to start by trimming the branches to make some space so that you can come in with an ax or chainsaw. After that, you will need to make a small notch in the trunk and pour glyphosate herbicide into it. This substance is highly toxic to most trees, and it will kill the persimmon plant within a week or two.
Once you’re sure that the tree is dead, you'll need to make sure its branches don’t get tangled up in a power line or anything else on your property. If you notice that some parts of the tree are still in contact with the power lines, you'll need to trimthose branches out before you start the removal process.
You'll have to make a notch on the trunk to give yourself an idea about where to start. From there, you'll need to make an undercut on the other side to make it fall in that direction. Once you’ve made a notch, the next thing you need to do is to come in with an ax or chainsaw to cut along the first notch you made.
You'll need to make the cut slightly lower than the undercutto help the tree fall in the right direction, according to the undercut. When the cut is deep enough, the tree will tumble in the direction of the undercut and it will finally fall.
Now that most of the tree is out of the way, the next thing you will need to worry about is the stump. What you need when clearing out the stump of a persimmon tree is a stump grinder. As its name suggests, the machine pulverizes the stump, leaving wood chips, which can be recycled.
You'll need to start by digging a trench around the stump so that the grinder can fit on top of it. From there, lower the grinder down slowly and stand behind the cover of the machine to prevent wood shards from digging into your skin. Once the stump has been completely decimated, you can remove the remaining roots and restore the soil back to its original state.
