How Much Does It Cost to Remove a Tree?

Kitty Cobb • Jun 08, 2020

There’s no exact answer to this question. Just estimates! We can only provide the details of how tree removal is priced. The price quote is determined by the height, size, and species of the tree, among other factors. The location and the condition of the tree may also influence the cost of removing the tree.

On average, it costs between $100 and $2000 or more to remove a tree. Most homeowners have reported spending about $700 on the service. Tree service companies may have their own quotes. Another thing to consider apart from tree removal is stump grinding. The service provider may consider both when determining the final price.

What Could Be Included in Basic Tree Removal Services?

Companies consider several factors and the efforts to be spent on the job before naming the cost of tree removal service. In most cases, the service may include wood chipping and cleanup of the tree debris in the area.
Some companies also haul wood chips and logs away without charging an extra dime. They also cover the clean-up costs, and you don’t have to clean or hire someone to do it.

Services that You May Have to Pay Extra For

If you require more than the tree removal service, you may have to dig deeper into your pockets. If the price is not inclusive of hauling the branches and limbs away, then you’ll have to part with more money for wood disposal. The cost of wood disposal costs depends on the local dumping fees, but it’s around $50 to $150.

Here are the extra services that you may request for a quote

Wood Chipping

To save money, you can choose wood chipping rather than having the limbs hauled away. Most companies have their own chippers. If it’s not included in the main price, expect to pay $100 or more.

Stump Grinding

Only a few tree removal companies include stump removal in the final cost. Therefore, you might have to pay for this service, failure to which you will be left with an unwanted stump within your property.
You may get a discount for getting the service along with other services, but the contractor will also charge you for the equipment necessary. On estimate, you could pay $50 to $300 to have a stump removed. More and more companies are embracing the need to include stump removal in the main service.
That means, if a company didn’t remove the tree, then they won’t remove a tree stump in your yard. This is because of the little profit made for stump removal, which the companies consider not worth the hustle.

Tree Trunk Removal

The tree removal company will cut the tree trunk into movable segments and let you transfer them somewhere. It will cost you $100 to $200 to get the job done, whether you hire the company or other service provider.

Log Splitting

You may request the logs to be split into firewood. Some tree companies offer the service and bring their log splitting equipment. They might charge you an additional $100 to $150 for the service.
Since not many companies offer this service, find a firewood company that can split your wood. Alternatively, rent a log splitter and split the logs yourself.

Travel Expenses

You may have to pay the travel costs if you live outside the city where the company is located. It may include the drive time, so ask the tree removal company whether there’s a travel fee.

Average Tree Removal Cost

By now, you are familiar with how much it might cost you for additional tree removal services. What you don’t know yet is the actual cost of tree removal. It all depends on the size of the tree.

Oak & Maple Tree Removal

Oak and maple are hardwood trees. It’s highly likely you’ll be charged higher to have them removed from your property. Not only are they strong, but also very tall. A maple or oak tree can grow to 60 feet.
It’s just fair for a tree removal company to charge a property owner from $400 to $1,500 to have such a tree removed.

Pine Tree Removal

Pine trees vary in types and species. They grow from 40 to 60 feet tall and even 80 feet for some species. The height of the tree determines the cost of tree removal. A small pine tree can cost $300 to remove, while a tall one can cost about $1,500 or more.
Ask for quotes from different companies or at least three, and hire the company with the most suitable deal. Some contractors may charge less than others.

Large Tree Removal

Removal of a large tree is a dangerous job, and that’s why a tree removal services exist. An average homeowner should not try it. Your safety and your property come first.
Removing a large tree can be expensive because of many factors, including the tree’s height. A large tree of over 80 inches costs $2,000, while a 60-inch one will cost $1,500 to remove from your property.

Fallen Tree Removal

With a fallen tree in your yard, all you need is to have it removed as soon as possible. Although it doesn’t involve too much craftmanship like removing a standing tree, effort and equipment will be required.
You can, however, expect to pay a fraction of what would cost to pay for standard tree removal. It will cost you $300 or slightly more for an average tree. For a large one, you may pay $700 to have it removed from your yard.

Tree Branch Removal

You may not need to remove your entire tree but just one branch. It could be hanging over your house or touching the power lines and putting lives at risk. If it’s touching the power lines, your utility company can help with that, at no cost.
For any other reason, you should call a professional tree removal company. If the branches are relatively small, you can do it yourself. However, if it’s something your tree contractor can do, you’ll be charged hourly. Most companies charge between $200 and $300 per hour for the service.

Cost for Stump Removal

There are some things considered when determining the total cost of stump removal, just like tree removal. Whether you want to hire a professional or do it by yourself, size, the condition of the stump, and other factors will be considered.
If you decide to hire a contractor, ask about the details and prices of the stump removal before embarking on the project.

Factors that Affect Tree Removal Prices

As mentioned earlier, some factors determine the overall cost of removing a tree from your yard. Here are some of the factors that determine a tree removal cost:

Size

We already know that size plays a major role in determining the cost of tree removal. The larger the tree, the more it will cost you.
That’s because it will require more labor and maybe more equipment to complete the work. A larger tree means more wood, thus more work.

Diameter

The diameter too drives the cost of removing the tree and stump grinding. You may actually pay more for a smaller tree with a thicker diameter than a taller tree with a thinner one.

Condition

It’s easier for a tree service company to remove dead, dying, or rotting trees and so they charge you less. It’s more costly to remove live and healthy trees.

Location

The cost of tree removal is cheaper if the tree is situated away from an obstructed area and structures such as buildings.
Any damages caused while the contractor is working will be blamed on them, and so they are extra careful when there are added risks.

Tree Service Cost During Busy Seasons

During the busy spring, summer, and fall seasons, most tree service companies have a minimum charge of between $500 and $1000. They set minimums due to the high demand for services and a short amount of time to do them all. So, they decide to focus on larger and more profitable ones.
While some tree service jobs are under $500, it will difficult to find a tree company willing to help remove your tree during this season.

What About Damaged Trees?

Intense storms and winds can leave your trees vulnerable. A tree could be waiting for one more push to fall on your roof. When you are in this type of situation, you may have to pay more for a tree removal service.
The company needs to be more cautious not to cause further damage. It’s riskier to deal with a tree that has already fallen, and the chances are that some workers will get injured. That’s why it’s more costly.
Though it’s expensive having the tree removed by a professional, hiring one is the best decision you can ever make. They will take care of the job and keep you off the dangers of tree removal.

Tree Trimming Cost

Trees require regular maintenance to stay nicely shaped and complete the look of your property. That’s where tree trimming comes into use. Your tree will look not only healthy but also well-structured if you hire a professional.
Trimming facilitates healthy growth and fruit and flower production. It also helps eliminate any inconveniences that may be brought about by dead or broken limbs. Imagine having a good time with your family and suddenly, bang! A broken branch just landed on your roof.
Some of the factors considered when agreeing to trimming costs include location, diameter, and size. Confirm from the company whether they’ll haul the wood away or you’ll have to pay for the service separately.

Tree Pruning and Trimming Regular pruning and trimming are essential for maintaining the health and appearance of trees. Professional arborists are trained to assess which branches require trimming to promote healthy growth, improve structural integrity, and remove dead or diseased parts. Professional tree services can diagnose these issues early and implement appropriate treatments. They use specialized techniques to control infestations, ensuring that the surrounding environment remains unaffected. Professional tree services can help you choose the right tree species for your landscape and ensure they are planted correctly. Whether you're a homeowner or run a business, the last thing you want to deal with is someone getting injured or having a car damaged by a falling tree branch. In Spokane, we get a fair amount of snow, so you are probably used to seeing your trees after the snow melts. However, winter isn't the only season when the elements can damage your trees. Branches can also be weakened by summer storms and fall unexpectedly. Be sure to check your trees for damage as the weather warms up and we start having more intense storms. We can also provide a post-storm inspection. REPAIR OF DAMAGE After your trees have been damaged, you shouldn't only call a tree service company for safety reasons. In order to prevent further damage to your tree, it's important to prune dead limbs as soon as possible. Rot and disease are two of the most common problems that come from leaving damaged or dead branches in place for too long, so call the experts as soon as you notice either. HEALTH OVER THE LONG-TERM What can you gain by trimming and pruning your trees? We've discussed everything you can avoid by trimming and pruning your trees. Trees are at their healthiest when they are able to grow at the same time as the rest of their organism. Regular pruning and trimming can prevent some limbs from competing for resources and compromising the tree's overall health. While it may seem paradoxical that trimming and pruning a tree would stimulate growth, we are confident that you will notice a difference. CURB APPEAL You don't want unsightly trees to be the first thing friends, guests, employees, or potential customers see when they approach your home or business. If you try tree trimming and pruning on your own, you could risk long-term damage. During this time of year, we schedule many tree trimming and pruning appointments due to well-intentioned mistakes. Invest in our services instead of paying a professional tree service company to correct mistakes. You can request an estimate for your home or business by completing the form on our Contact page or by calling us . Our licensed, bonded, and insured company serves Spokane and many surrounding areas. You can count on us to make sure your trees look their best, no matter what shape they are in when you call. We are looking forward to speaking with you!

Tree removal is one of the most difficult and labor-intensive jobs. Hiring a professional to do this can give you peace of mind that the job will be done quickly and expertly. Besides, they know how to get rid of your trees while minimizing the risk to your property and neighborhood. The experts will be able to manage your tree(s) according to your personal preference, so there is no need to worry about being too hands-on. Read on for the top five reasons why you should hire a tree removal company! 1. Tree Removal Jobs Are Labor Intensive: In today's busy world, few people have the time to handle tree removal jobs. Not only is it hard and dangerous work, but it requires specialized equipment that many homeowners do not own. Many also do not have the experience or knowledge of how to go about this job properly. In addition, they may use incorrect techniques that can injure bystanders and damage the surrounding area. 2. You May Fall: To properly remove a tree, you need to climb it or use a bucket truck to access the branches. While this is a normal part of the job, if you are not experienced, it can be risky. Falling from even a small height can hurt or even kill you. In addition, if you do not use the correct equipment and know-how to use them, it can put you in even more danger. With a professional tree removal company, you don't have to worry about anything. 3. You May Damage Your Property: When the experts do the job, you can rest assured that they will not damage your property. Falling trees are very heavy and can crush anything in their path. Even a single branch can tear away siding or damage your roof, causing leaks and water damage. Save yourself tens of thousands by hiring an expert instead of taking on the job yourself. 4. Risk of Electrocution: If you are not aware of the electrical wiring that exists around your property, you can be putting yourself and others at risk of injury. When removing large trees, it is necessary to work around or under the power lines that connect your house to the power grid. If you are not sure how to approach this, there is a serious risk of being electrocuted or starting a fire that could potentially destroy your home. 5. Cleaned Landscape: When you hire a professional to do the job, you can trust that they will remove the entire tree. This will leave your landscape looking neat and clean. With some jobs, if you do it yourself, you may be left with unwanted tree debris scattered about, which can look bad and invite unwanted insects. With a professional company, you can trust that they will clear the area completely. Enlisted are the five most common ways we sabotage our trees. It's easy to blame the situation, but not the person. So, stop blaming the situation and start turning things around! 1. Mulch: We think mulch is meant to help the environment, but it's doing the exact opposite. Instead of covering the ground, it actually kills the soil. Over time, constant application of mulch actually decays the soil. Instead of improving the soil, it actually causes the decline. Trees are sensitive to even the slightest PH level changes, and if it is upset by the constant application of mulch, it's a sure way to weaken the tree's roots and prevent them from growing strong. 2. Girdling: Trees grow so big that it's difficult to spot damage while performing routine maintenance. This is especially true for trees with large trunks. Regular pruning will not only open up the tree's branching but also allows more light to penetrate and reach all the way to the core of the tree. Girdling causes damage to the tree by cutting off its circulation. It basically cuts off the flow of nutrients and water in the tree, killing it slowly. Girdling is a common mistake of gardeners, but they don't even realize it until it's too late. 3. Tree Topping: Over time, trees grow large and tall. It's perfectly normal, but we sometimes chop them off. Tree topping is a common mistake performed by tree surgeons, but they don't even realize it's a mistake. It's an excessive pruning that leaves the tree naked and deformed. We've all seen it, the barren trees covered with wire mesh. This unnecessary pruning will stunt the growth of the tree as well as kill its branches. 4. Planting Vines to Grow on Trees: Trees look awesome, and we want to decorate them with everything we can. It's a shame they are often covered in multiple vines and trinkets that actually slow their growth. You can look at trees as exoskeletons of plants. And if we put too much pressure on them, they're not able to grow the way they're supposed to. By adding vines and ornaments, we are actually damaging the tree's growth by weighing it down and making it grow slower than it would without any assistance. 5. Water: Water is crucial for trees to grow, but sometimes we over-water them. If you live in an area with extremely hot summers, you must water trees regularly. If you live in an area with mild summers, you must check the soil regularly to ensure your trees have enough water. Unfortunately, there's no sure way to tell how much water is too much. Your gut will tell you when your tree needs more water and when it's already drowning in a pool of water. Get Professional Assistance: Brett's Tree Service Spokane Washington, brings you the comfort of knowing you have a professional arborist to assist you in taking care of your trees. We can help you with your maintenance needs while making sure your trees are safe. Don't hesitate to contact us or schedule an appointment online to give your trees the attention they deserve.

You probably love trees, but did you know that they can't care for themselves? They're living beings and need help during their lifecycle. Some need to be cut down because they're too close to the house, but sometimes you might find a tree that's encroaching on your lawn. While there are many ways to trim trees, professional tree trimming services are a fantastic option. They will be able to handle the job quickly and efficiently and will also ensure that the health of the tree is not compromised in any way. Here are four good reasons why hiring professional tree trimmers is a smart decision: 1. Professional Trimming Helps Trees Grow Stronger Trees that aren't regularly trimmed tend to grow too disproportionately. Branches will get too big for the size and strength of the trunk, creating weak points and branches that are likely to break. Without proper trimming, trees could become dangerous. They can potentially fall across driveways and streets, or worse, damage nearby homes. This is why tree trimming is so important: without it, trees can become a safety risk if they're not managed properly. You must understand that trimming trees isn't just about cutting branches; it's about problem-solving. It gives us a chance to strengthen crooked limbs and fix weak areas on the tree that may turn into future problems. 2. Improves Light Penetration and Air Circulation Trees are incredible organisms in that they are constantly growing and adapting to their surroundings. They can actually be a bit of a struggle to maintain, especially since they typically aren't the first thing on peoples' minds when it comes to tending to a yard or garden. One of the biggest reasons to hire a professional is because they are there to protect your trees from the risks of overgrowth. They will trim your trees in a way that maximizes the amount of light penetration and air circulation throughout the tree, providing it with the nutrients it needs to stay strong and healthy. When a tree doesn't get enough light, it can dry out and become susceptible to diseases like bark beetles. This can, in turn, cause the tree to die. Additionally, trees that have dense canopies can't breathe properly, especially in the winter when the humidity is low. Properly trimmed trees will give them plenty of room to grow without becoming too big for their branches. 3. Helps Keeps your Property Safe Trees are a natural part of any landscape, but they can be dangerous if they're not properly taken care of. Have you ever walked underneath a tree and become concerned about the limbs above your head? Or worse, have you ever been curious as to what would happen if a large branch were to break off and fall to the ground? These are the types of questions that can be avoided with professional tree trimming services. A professional arborist will be able to see the signs of stress that are happening in the tree and address them before they become a problem. By removing branches that are growing in an odd way, they're making sure that the tree is strong enough to withstand any weather or climate change. When you have a healthy tree, it will help to keep your home and property safe from possible storms or hail damage. Spring is a time for planting, a time to look up and see new life emerging. It's a time for new beginnings and for starting fresh - in all areas of life. But sometimes, this might mean that your property needs a little TLC. For many homeowners, this means cutting down dead trees or trimming branches that are touching the roof. Even if you hire professional tree trimmers, there are still things that you need to know about trimming trees in the spring. There are many reasons to keep trees trimmed. Some are simply aesthetic, while others prevent a potential hazard. Whatever the reason, one thing is certain: tree trimming requires time and attention. With the changing of the seasons, now is the perfect time to inspect your trees and trim them accordingly! In this post, we're going to explore some of the essential knowledge you need to know about spring tree trimming. Why Trimming Your Trees Is Important? Trimming simply means cutting back. And when we talk about trees, we're talking about cutting back the branches and leaves to prevent overgrowth. Overgrowth takes away from light and impacts the health of the tree itself—and a poorly pruned tree can grow at an extremely fast rate. For homeowners, this means that a large tree can grow into a hazard very quickly. Regardless of the season, maintaining a healthy tree should be your first priority. Here are a few reasons why trimming your trees in the spring is a great idea: 1. Shape: It's spring! Winter is over, and it's time to clean up that yard. A good way to ensure that your yard is looking clean and attractive is to shape your trees in a desirable manner. Trimming trees helps to make sure that the branches are evenly distributed and that they're evenly spaced from one another. 2. Safety: Trimming trees helps to ensure that your property stays safe. Trees can cause quite a few different safety hazards if they're not taken care of properly. Overgrown trees can fall and break power lines or your property itself. The more branches there are, the more danger you can run into. 3. Health: Poorly trimmed trees can stress out your tree, causing it to become unhealthy. If you want to keep your trees in a healthy state, you need to ensure that they are properly pruned. Trimming the tree will help it to get more sunlight and prevent stress—which can lead to illness. 4. Appeal: Let's face it: trees look pretty, especially during the springtime. The leaves are just emerging and showing off their colors. It's a great time to trim your trees and show them off! This is especially true for homeowners who live in warm climates. Without trimming, trees tend to grow faster than they should and become leafier. This makes for a very leafy canopy and can ruin the attractiveness of the tree itself. Hire Professional for Efficient Trimming: Brett's Tree Service Spokane Washington, with its reliable, professional team of experts, can prune your trees for a clean, appealing look. Shortly after cutting down a tree, piece after piece is lifted and carried away from the location. What’s left behind is what held the tree in one place, the stump. That stump leaves many questions on what to do next. Should you leave it there in the yard or remove it, and forget there was even a tree there? What about grinding it? Neither is a bad idea. Here’s the difference between the two methods, and the one should pick. Is it Fine to Leave a Tree Stump in the Ground? The stump begins the decaying process after cut down. During this period, the stump becomes a home to bugs like termites and carpenter ants. So, if you don’t remove the stump, those bugs might invade other trees or your home. You’ll have to settle with stump removal or grinding to keep those pesky pests at bay. Any Other Reason I Should Proceed with Tree Stump Removal? Ants and termites are not the only factors. You should also consider removing the stump for these reasons: A decaying stump ruins the look of your property. It can affect its value. A stump might cause issues with your lawn. The roots could cause damage to your lawnmower. Planting new trees near the stump will be impossible. Its far-reaching roots will complicate the process. So, Tree Stump Removal, or Stump Grinding? Both have their pros and cons. What matters is how you want your landscape or hardscape to look. The tree stump removal is rather hard. You heave up the stump and dig out all the roots. It takes a lot of muscle and time to get it done. However, you get a clear landscape. Stump grinding is less intrusive. Our arborists use a special machine to shred down the stump. Though it's more effective than stump removal, it leaves the tree’s roots in the ground. Closing Remarks Whichever process you go with, its entirely your decision. However, if you want a quick solution, you can call us . Our professional tree service is on standby, ready to serve you. Our goal is to make your yard better!

Trees are generally harmless creatures. It’s, however, possible for them to hazardous and cause injury or even death to people. Every year, falling tree trunks and branches cause tragic deaths, hundreds of injuries, and property damages worth millions of dollars in America. Tree accidents are caused by natural forces of nature or negligence. They are not our enemies. In fact, one large tree might boost the value of your property. It could also help you cut down on air conditioning costs. But one or a few trees can be a disaster waiting to happen. Though looking healthy, a tree can be vulnerable to storms and intense rainfall. Here are tips for spotting a dangerous tree. Examine the Whole of it Stand where you can see the whole tree. Examine and ask yourself the following questions: Is the tree leaning towards one side? Are there dead branches hanging from it? Are the leaves dropping prematurely? If the answer to all these questions is yes, then you need to pick your phone and call Brett Service. Let our professionals come and inspect the tree and recommend the best solution. Inspect the Ground Under the Tree Trees have two types of roots. The most visible ones are the large structural roots that hold up the tree. The smaller and invisible ones are the absorbing roots, responsible for providing the tree with water and essential nutrients from the soil. A tree can look vibrant and healthy but have a severe root problem, and become a ticking time bomb. Check the ground area below the tree to find evidence of root problems. Do you see cracked or raised soil? That means the tree could be uprooting itself. Do you see fungus on or near the roots or trunk? The fungus is a strong sign that the roots are decaying. When the roots are in the risk of decaying, rotting, uprooting, or cut, the tree loses hold and risks falling. Call an approved arborist ASAP if you notice this problem. The Trunk Also In case you don’t notice the side anything on the ground, inspect the trunk. If you notice cracks and cavities, then the tree’s trunk is about to split anytime. If the crack is situated where the bark is falling, that’s a clear indication of fungus infestation. Also, check whether there’s a long streak of missing bark. It’s a sign that lightning struck the tree. Some trees do recover, while others turn brown and die. Any dead tree should be cut down. Check the Canopy Trees shed branches if they don’t get enough sunlight. Dead branches are the most vulnerable when a storm strike. Inspect your tree for branches that don’t grow leaves and deadwood. Dead branches usually have brown leaves or no leaves at all and are easy to spot. Branches that have been dead for a long time won’t have any bark, and they break easily. To prevent accidents, remove such branches carefully. Call a certified arborist to assist you with that. Wrap up Trees are beautiful, but so is life.
